Nuisance reduction

LVNL guides air traffic in a safe, efficient and environmentally conscious manner with as little impact on the environment as possible.

Air traffic controllers use fixed procedures when guiding aircraft. These include the various routes that aircraft can follow in the air. These routes are designed to strike a balance between the number of flight movements and the noise impact on the surrounding area. Working together towards less nuisance

LVNL and Schiphol, with the support of the airlines, are working together to reduce noise nuisance from air traffic in the vicinity of the airport. In this way, we want to improve the quality of the living environment. We do this by applying nuisance-reducing procedures and measures. These include routes around residential areas. In practice, preventing noise pollution and reducing CO2 emissions sometimes conflict with each other. If we have pilots fly around residential areas, this sometimes results in longer routes and therefore higher emissions. In flight operations, we continuously seek to strike a balance between efficiency and limiting CO2 emissions and noise pollution – with safety always being our top priority, of course.
