The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the aviation sector have had a negative influence on the selection and training of aspiring air traffic controllers in recent years. Various interventions and improvements to the training system have enabled a catch-up in the recruitment, selection and training of air traffic controllers.
Due to limited training capacity, we have chosen to start a pilot in which the regular Initial Training is organised in cooperation with, and largely delivered by, an external partner. This allows the training services of air traffic controllers, the deployment of simulator pilots and valuable simulator time to be used as efficiently as possible for on-the-job training (OJT).
