Green assets

We are reducing our carbon footprint and energy consumption for all LVNL assets by, among other things, making buildings and technical systems more sustainable. 96% of our electricity is green and comes from Dutch wind power.

Green energy, energy generation and energy saving

Since 2023, 96% of the energy we purchase has been green and sourced from Dutch wind farms. At the sustainably constructed Polaris training centre, we generate our own electricity using 518 solar panels. We have also installed 96 solar panels at the Riekerpolder emergency location. In addition, we have been purchasing carbon-offset energy since 2023. In addition to energy generation, energy saving is an important theme for LVNL. In 2023, all our fluorescent lighting was replaced by LED lighting, we worked on a more energy-efficient climate control system and we critically examined which systems could be switched off to save energy. There is still much more to be gained in this area. We will continue to take steps in this direction in the coming years.

Donation of navigation beacons to Zambia

In 2023, we donated twelve navigation beacons to Zambia Air Traffic Control (ZACL). These beacons had become redundant in the Netherlands due to the increasing use of satellite navigation. With this donation, LVNL is contributing to energy reduction and further increasing flight safety in Zambian airspace, while also ensuring that high-quality materials are reused.
