GAIN and BRAIN networks have been installed at Groningen Airport Eelde, Maastricht Aachen Airport and Rotterdam The Hague Airport, connecting to the national network for fast and standardised data exchange. The modernisation not only replaces outdated infrastructure, but also lays the foundation for future innovations and even more reliable services.
‘This upgrade of our local networks, together with the national Mustang network, is the digital backbone of LVNL,’ says Annejet Lieshout (General Manager Infrastructure & Maintenance): ‘Our network teams have worked extremely hard on this final step in replacing old systems with a single centralised and scalable platform. This strengthens our digital infrastructure and makes our systems more reliable, manageable and secure.’
With the addition of the GAIN networks at the three regional airports, LVNL now has a uniform, standardised local network at all locations. The new BRAIN networks, in turn, ensure reliable data exchange from the sensors that LVNL manages at and around the airports. Via the link to the national Mustang network, data is transferred over a fibre-optic network with nodes throughout the Netherlands.
The network upgrades are part of a broader European development towards seamless information data access and interchange between all providers and users of air traffic management data and services. LVNL received support from the SESAR Deployment Manager (SDM) for the implementation of the Mustang, GAIN and BRAIN projects, which are co-financed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) with European funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for transport.
