Events with an impact on airspace

If you organize an event that may have an impact on the airspace, you must request permission from LVNL and sometimes also from the ILT (Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate). In this way, we prevent undesirable situations in the airspace.

What kind of events?

If you organise an event with one or more of the activities below, you need to request permission:

  • Air show, such as a fly-by, acrobatics or flying contest
  • Relay flights for reporting
  • Flights for crowd management
  • Toy balloons, Chinese lanterns, captive balloons or captive kites
  • Shoooter party

This list is by no means complete. When you organise another activity thta mights have an impact on airspace, please also request permission.

For releasing toy balloons, captive balloons and kites, the Dutch government has set rules. On the pages below, you can determine the consequences for your event.

HOW DO I REQUEST PERMISSION?

To do this, use the application form below.

Depending on the activity you organize, you will also have to complete and send additional applications. If necessary, it will be stated on the form. You email the completed form to the Operational Helpdesk.

WHY DO I NEED TO ASK FOR PERMISSION?

An event in the airspace can affect regular air traffic. This means that LVNL and ILT must determine for each activity whether and, if so, how this can be facilitated. This requires analyzes and agreements.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR MY APPLICATION TO BE PROCESSED?

In the diagram below you can read what impact an event can have and what that means for the lead time of the analysis and the agreement on procedures for flight operations. Use this lead time as the minimum period for requesting permission for your activity.

The lead times are indicative. They are based on our past experience and on the time needed by any other organizations involved. You cannot derive any rights from the lead times in the schedule.

PERMISSION FROM LVNL FOR FLIGHTS IS ALWAYS PROVISIONAL

If you organize an event involving flights, you will receive provisional permission for those flights.

Depending on the operational circumstances at the time of execution, an LVNL air traffic control unit may decide not to issue a flight clearance for safety reasons or to withdraw an earlier clearance. LVNL cannot be held liable for the consequences thereof.
