Airspace infringements Lelystad

WHAT IS AN AIRSPACE infringement?

You cause an airspace infringement if you fly into controlled airspace without a clearance from an air traffic controller. Controlled airspace is airspace in classes A to D. An airspace infringement is a risk to your safety and that of other air traffic.

Preventing airspace infringements

Make sure you are aware of places around Lelystad Airport where you can easily commit an airspace infringement. That helps to prevent them. You can find these places on the map, with an explanation below.

This map is for illustration purposes, maps for operational use can be found in the AIP.

  1. If you fly without clearance between 1500 ft and 2500 ft in certain parts of Lelystad TMA 2 and/or TMA 3, you violate Lelystad CTR 2. The lower limit of Lelystad TMA 2 and 3 is 1500 ft, except where Lelystad CTR 2 (GND – 2500 ft) is below.
  2. If you fly without clearance near Zeewolde along the coastline of Flevoland, you are in violation of Lelystad CTR 2.
  3. If you fly Southwest without clearance immediately after leaving the Lelystad CTR at the BRAVO reporting point, then you are violating Lelystad CTR 2.
Do you want to go to Hilversum or Rotterdam? Then, after leaving the Lelystad CTR at the BRAVO reporting point, fly straight over the Veluwemeer to 'the old land'. Then deflect. That way you do not fly (without clearance) back into the Lelystad CTR at Zeewolde.
  4. If you fly from Houtribdijk (Enkhuizen – Lelystad) to the A6 without clearance, then you violate Lelystad CTR 2.
  5. If you fly along the A6 without clearance, you are in violation of Lelystad CTR 1.
  6. If you fly north along the A27 without clearance, you are in violation of Lelystad CTR 1.
  7. If you fly below 2500 ft over Dronten and Swifterbant without clearance, you violate Lelystad CTR 2.
Do you want to go north? Then turn only when you are north of Swifterbant. You then ensure that you do not fly back into the Lelystad CTR (without clearance).
  8. If you fly above 1500 ft without clearance at the MIKE reporting point, you are in violation of Schiphol TMA 1.
  9. If you fly northeast of Lelystad above 2500 ft without clearance and above FL 045 after continuing to climb, you violate Lelystad TMA 4 en TMA 5.
  10. If you fly here without clearance above FL 055, you are in violation of Nieuw Milligen TMA B, C2 of TMA E.

FURTHER TIPS PREVENT AIRSPACE VIOLATIONS

  • Prepare your flight well. You then know in which airspace you are flying and where you need to request clearance.
  • See if you can find ground features in your flight preparation that keep you clear of certain airspace.
  • Think of highways, railways, and waterways. Or look for characteristics that indicate which airspace you are approaching so that you can request clearance in time.
  • Carry out your flight and preparation with a navigation app.
  • Do not use airspace boundaries to navigate, but stay clear of them.
  • Listen during your flight or call up at Amsterdam Info or Dutch Mil Info. That way you can also be reached in the event of a possible airspace violation.
