Survey projects

Survey projects are:

    1. Survey flights within a CTR that fly over a target for more than ten minutes.
    2. Survey flights in other airspace.

Responsibilities aircraft operator

As an aircraft operator of survey flights within the Amsterdam FIR, you are at any time responsible for:

    • Keeping the flight plan up-to-date;
    • Informing the Operational Help Desk by phone if the flight is delayed, cancelled, or changed in any way;
    • Adhering to the instructions given by the Operational Help Desk;
    • Keeping yourself informed about the NOTAMs valid for the flight;
    • Obtaining a clearance of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) unit involved during your flight before entering controlled airspace. The Operational Help Desk co-ordinates your project flight and approves it, which means that the ATC unit is aware of your intentions. However, this does not mean that they have given you a clearance yet. You obtain the clearance on the appropriate RTF channel.

 

Co-ordination of the flight with foreign ATC

If a part of the survey flight takes place outside the Amsterdam FIR, or in a part of the Amsterdam FIR where ATS has been delegated to a foreign ATC unit, you are responsible for prior co-ordination of the flight with the foreign ATC unit. Keep in mind that the flight has to be performed according local rules an legislation.

 

If necessary, the air traffic controller may postpone, cancel or stop a survey flight at any moment.

 

 

Procedure survey projects Amsterdam FIR

Follow the steps below, if you want to execute a survey project in the Amsterdam FIR. For more information: click here.

 

At least two weeks in advance

Or up to six weeks in advance if you need an exemption from the Inspectorate for Transport, Public Works and Water Management (ILT).

 

Collect documents Download the relevant forms, collect the required flight data and request the required exemption from ILT.

 

At least five days in advance

Deliver flight data Send the completed request form and other required documents by email to the Operational Help Desk.
Receive project form You will receive a project form with a project number from the Operational Help Desk.

 

At least one hour before the flight

Request permission to fly in Amsterdam FIR Send the Operational Help Desk an email to request permission to perform the flight, in accordance with the instructions given in the project form.
Request permission to fly outside Amsterdam FIR
(if applicable)		 Send the project form to the foreign ATC unit to request permission for the flight outside Amsterdam FIR.
Submit flight plan After receiving permission from the Operational Help Desk, submit a flight plan in the usual manner.
Communicate flight changes Call the Operational Help Desk if the flight is delayed, cancelled or changed in any way.
Close survey project After the flight project is finished, inform the Operational Help Desk that the project is closed.
