Parallel approaches are a frequently used mode-of-operation at Schiphol Airport. To ensure a robust and safe traffic flow, it is key that Air Traffic Control as well as pilots are aware of the factors that can affect safety when in a parallel approach operation. In order to increase awareness among pilots, in the animation we will show three scenarios in which safety can be affected. Parallel approaches for runways 36C and 36R are used as an example to visualise this, yet the general reasoning also applies for parallel approaches to runways 18C and 18R. During parallel approaches the following separation minima apply: 1000ft vertical separation, or both aircraft are localiser established or 3NM horizontal separation. Default interception altitudes for parallel approaches to the north are respectively 4000ft for runway 36C and 3000ft for runway 36R.
