Quite often inbound aircraft do not comply or adhere to the prescribed level restrictions at the Initial Approach Fix - IAF. As stated in the AIP the Netherlands: “Cross the Initial Approach Fixes ARTIP, RIVER and SUGOL at or below FL100 unless otherwise instructed.”
Inbound level restrictions are in place to resolve inbound/outbound conflicts and therewith to guarantee and provide a smooth, orderly, predictable, safe and efficient traffic flow.
What can you do as a pilot to minimise unwanted situations?
Make sure you always plan to cross the Initial Approach Fix at or below FL100. If unable: Inform Amsterdam ACC upfront or as soon as possible. This will enable Amsterdam ACC to provide the aircraft involved, if necessary, with extra track miles at an early stage or otherwise.
By following these best practices we enable aviation together.
